The ins and outs of the Hotelboat Holiday

Hotelboat Holiday – What is a Hotelboat Holiday?

Hotelboats have been cruising the canals and rivers of England for over sixty years, but are one of the best-kept secrets of the waterways. If you are one of the many people who have not yet discovered this unique type of holiday, a brief explanation is in order. Your hotelboat cruises for between four to six hours each day, exploring some of the finest unspoilt English countryside. The canals were a major contributor to the Industrial Revolution, and there remains a great deal of evidence of this heritage with a surprising amount of industrial architecture to be seen. If you would like to get more involved, we can teach you how to operate the locks and help out with the rope work when we moor each day. There are plenty of opportunities to step ashore, either during the day when you can walk beside the boat (we only travel at 2-3 mph so will not leave you behind!), or after we have moored at the end of the day when you can take a little time away from the boat and explore the surrounding area. Each afternoon we will find an interesting mooring, sometimes isolated and quiet, on other occasions close to a quintessential village with thatch cottages, or possibly near a charming canal side pub. All your meals are freshly prepared and cooked on board; from freshly baked biscuits, cakes and bread, to cooked breakfast, buffet lunch and three course evening meal. One thing is for sure on a hotel boat holiday, you will not go hungry! After your evening meal you may take the opportunity to stretch your legs along the towpath, or sit back and relax in the saloon or well deck, before retiring for the night. In the morning you will awake refreshed and ready for the adventures ahead! If you have any further questions about our holidays please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
